Free Fun Friday on June 26

Enjoy free admission and engineering activities all day!

Cambridge, MA, June 15, 2015—The MIT Museum is kicking off summer vacation on June 26th with a Free Fun Friday sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation. Enjoy free admission to the museum all day, indoor and outdoor activities, and free sunglasses for the first 100 visitors.

Throughout the day, from 10:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. on June 26th, there will be drop-in activities designed for students on the first floor of the Museum. Visitors can tap into their inner engineer learning to build skyscrapers from paper and an even taller tower with paper cups. Front Street will be closed, proving plenty of space for the Museum's "Science on the Street" van hosting museum educators and the stomp rocket activity.

Inside at the Museum visitors can explore the popular new exhibition, Images of Discovery, featuring image-making stations that have encouraged visitors to upload thousands of photos to the exhibition'sFlickr account. Also on view are the sculptures of Arthur Ganson, a new selection of holograms from the Museum Collections, and Photographing Places, an exhibition featuring large-scale images made during the past two decades by a range of renowned photographers.

"On this Free Fun Friday we look forward to having families and out of town visitors come to the MIT Museum" says the Mark R. Epstein (Class of 1963) Director of the MIT Museum, John Durant. "We are grateful to the Highland Street Foundation for making this special day possible and we want visitors to enjoy everything that the MIT Museum has to offer," says Durant.

Since its inception in 2009, Free Fun Fridays has drawn more than 800,000 visitors to venues throughout the Commonwealth. Last year alone, the program reached 150,000 people and according to the Highland Street Foundation's Executive Director, Blake Jordan, those numbers are expected to increase with the expansion of the program. Free Fun Fridays is one of many programs created and supported by the Highland Street Foundation to increase access and opportunities for children and families throughout Massachusetts.
