Right Now: Polaroid's Invention of Instant Photography

Ongoing

Currently on view on the first floor is a rare large-format camera from the Museum's Polaroid collection. Polaroid and MIT have long been partners. Edwin Land, the Cambridge scientist, inventor, and founder of the Polaroid Corporation, started what would become his iconic 20th-century business in small brick buildings just around the corner from the MIT Museum.

Accompanying the Polaroid installation is a display of five photographs by noted local photographer Elsa Dorfman, known for her use of a Polaroid 20x24-inch camera, one of only six in existence.
