Volunteer

Help the Institute in its mission to build a better world by joining our education and public programs team as a volunteer! We welcome staff, faculty, and students from the MIT community who are committed to engaging with the public and sharing their excitement about and knowledge of MIT, current MIT research, or the MIT experience.

Volunteers lead demonstrations in our galleries on topics such as holography or robotics, interacting with visitors and empowering them to delve deeper into the subject. Run one of our existing hands-on demos, or work with the education and public programs team to develop a new demonstration showcasing areas of research that you want to share with the public.

Volunteers must:

  • have completed high school and be at least 17 years old
  • commit to at least 50 hours of volunteering per year
  • participate in volunteer training at the museum
  • behave in a manner consistent with the museum’s values
