Cambridge Science Festival 2021

April 2021

Get ready for a month-long celebration of science with this year’s Cambridge Science Festival!

Here's a taste of what we have planned at the museum:

Kids Science Club
Sign up for one or all of these workshops and receive a kit full with all the materials you’ll need to participate in the activities. Then, join us on zoom as we explore and experiment! Choose from Rocking Rocks (& Minerals), Rainbow Science, Lemon Light and The Ultimate Space Journey.

Microscopic Coloring Book
Help us add color to our growing collection of SEM images of everyday (and not so every day) things in our community-wide project. Need help, want to learn more? Join us for an SEM Exploration or Colorization Tutorial session.

Movie Night – The Martian
Watch "The Martian" with MIT researchers who have worked on real Mars missions!

Science Trivia Night
We’re joining with Aeronaut Brewing Co. to present Science Trivia Night, so gather your friends, roommates, and Zoom-mates to test your knowledge of science and technology facts and oddities.

Hacking Hour - Chain Reaction
Turn a room in your home into a chain reaction contraption while chatting, and enjoying a signature “hacktail.”

Unearthing the Science of Houseplant Care
Whether a novice or pro, join us and fellow indoor garden enthusiasts for a conversation about the science of houseplant care. Bring your questions and share your experiences, as we green-up our thumbs together.

Getting Crafty with Data Science
Knit, crochet, or sew textile representations of everyday data and observations.

Virtual Idea Hub: Crazy Contraptions
All month long, we’ll be building, testing, and connecting moving parts in our weekly makerspace sessions to create a community Virtual Chain Reaction. Attend a single session or come back each week to add more complexity to your creation

Virtual Chain Reaction Watch Party
Teams of tinkerers have created crazy contraptions in their homes and submitted videos of those contraptions in action. Everyone's contributions have been assembled into one big Virtual Chain Reaction video! April 30, 7-8:30 pm. View on Zoom here.

Down with Design: Where Art Meets Science
For Cambridge High School students ONLY: Explore different and creative ways that art and science collide through music, graffiti art, and dance. Sunday, April 25. Limited tickets available- contact mrojas@mit.edu to inquire about registration

The MIT Museum aims to make its online programs accessible to as many individuals as possible. Live closed captioning services (CART) will be provided when requested at least two weeks in advance of a program. Please email mitmuseum-access@mit.edu to request CART services or suggest other accommodations that would help you fully participate in this program.
