Nautical Day

February 23, 2019, 1 - 4 p.m.

Dive into hands-on nautical explorations with members from the MIT Museum’s Hart Nautical Collections staff, MIT researchers, and other partners and friends. Explore ocean engineering, navigation through nautical charts, and talk to individuals working in the field. Included with Museum admission and offered in conjunction with our exhibition, Lighter, Stronger, Faster: The Herreshoff Legacy.

Our partners for the day include:
BU Steam, a student group from Boston University who strive to make STEM fields accessible through the arts
MIT Babbin Lab, chemical oceanographers and microbiologists trying to understand how Earth's climate is really shaped from the smallest organisms on the planet
MIT Fleierl Lab, studying oceanography concerned with the theory of geophysical vortices and jets
MIT Follows Lab, studying the interactions of physical, chemical, and biological processes
MIT Marshall Lab, an oceanographer studying the circulation of the ocean, its coupling to the atmosphere, and the role of the oceans in climate.
Northeastern Marine Science Center, part of the Department of Marine and Environmental Science at NEU Sidney-Pacific House at MIT
Team Pauline, a student group that helped a blind boater sail independently using assistive technology

Presented as part of Feb Fest.
