Description

Oscilloscope in a rectangular metal case with two black leather handles. The case is made of a blue metal, with a silver-colored front plate. The front face has a circular cathode ray tube screen with a plastic cover with a black grid printed on it on top of the CRT screen. The front face also has 18 knobs and several electrical connectors, toggle switches, and indicator lights. Serial number 9059.

Oscilloscopes display electrical voltage as a function of time. Though they are used in a variety of industries, this oscilloscope was designed as a general purpose piece of laboratory equipment to analyze electrical circuits by studying the waveform of voltage and current at various points in the circuit. This device was given to the MIT Stroboscopic Light Laboratory by Crawford H. Greenewalt, then the president of the DuPont Company.
