Description

An ammeter consisting of a metal case in the shape of a square with an arc along its top side. There is a glass window on on the arc portion that opens up to a dial with a pointer and a scale that goes from 0 to 5,000 (no units marked). On the back, there is a light bulb that illuminates the scale.

This instrument was used to measure large electrical currents, and was most used at a powerhouse switchboard.
