Out of the Box Engineering Workshop

Explore the making and the engineering process in the spirit of MIT’s motto “mens et manus” (mind and hand) as you design, build, test, and iterate on your own puzzle box.

Participants will explore:

  • The engineering design cycle
  • Iteration
  • Learning from data
  • The application of mathematics skills in design and engineering
  • Problem solving techniques

RECOMMENDED MATERIALS  

  • 1 Protractor/ruler*
  • 1 Compass*
  • 1 Scissors
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Carboard (1 cereal box or chipboard)
  • 1 Roll of any type of tape
  • Construction paper
  • Pencils
  • Wooden dowels or toothpicks or bamboo skewers
  • Markers
  • Brass Fasteners
  • Hole puncher
