Description

Colored woodcut of a whale with a harpoon in its back swimming away from two rowboats of men, who are holding on to the harpoon. The whale is spouting. In the near foreground is a rowboat of six men, one of whom is holding a musket aimed at a white bear on a patch of ice. A large iceberg is visible in the background, along with four large ships, of which two are discernably three-masted. The closest ship to the foreground bears the Dutch flag used in the period.
