Uncolored engraving depicting a fleet of whaleships on the ice, with men on whaleboats pursuing spouting whales. On a boat at left, men are cutting into a dead whale. In the left hand foreground, men prepare to shoot muskets at a pair of polar bears. A ship in the center background flies a flag with a single white cross on a dark ground. Title and artist information printed in lower margin. Draughtsman's work is marked 1778 and engraver's, 1781.
