A glass retort with a ovoid body that tapers into a long neck that bends over and slopes downward so that the neck’s opening is lower than the bulb on the retort.

Retorts were often used in distillation, where the neck allowed for the liquid condensate from the main body to flow along the neck and drip into a container placed below it.
