Founded in Chicago by brothers-in-law Hal Elliott and Sam Goss. The company name is a combination of their first names. Initially known for manufacturing blocks, dominoes, and other wooden toys, they eventually founded Elgo Plastics Inc. to produce plastic toys such as the American Skyline series sets. Merged with Playskool in 1962.
