Glenn Allen Berchtold joined the MIT Department of Chemistry in 1959 as a postdoctoral fellow, was appointed as an instructor in 1961, and joined the faculty as an assistant professor in 1961, was appointed as associate professor in 1964, and professor in 1969. He served as the acting head of the Chemistry department from 1966 to 1967, and head of the department from 1971 to 1976.
