Description

John B. Herreshoff was the senior partner and business manager of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. Though he became blind at age 14, he was running his own boatyard by age 22. After forming a partnership with his younger brother, Nathanael, in 1878, he developed the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company as an innovative, vertically integrated firm, employing several hundred people, that built wooden and metal sailing yachts, steamers, and marine engines.
