Naval architect who specialized in sailing yachts

L. Francis Herreshoff was the fourth son of Nathanael G. Herreshoff, a noted yacht designer, marine engineer, and founder of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. L. Francis Herreshoff began his career as an apprentice to W. Starling Burgess. He founded his own firm in 1926, producing a string of successful and noted racing and cruising yachts as well as innovative hardware and design components. He also wrote extensively about his work, including articles in "The Rudder" and several books, among them "The Common Sense of Yacht Design."
