Object Lesson: Electron Microscope

The MIT Museum is full of objects that fascinate, educate, illuminate, confound, and entertain.

Join us for a new series where we'll engage with the material things in our collection. Each session will showcase one object from the museum and explore its history and context.

Electron Microscope
Tuesday November 29, 3PM

When Francis Schmitt was hired to head the Institute’s Department of Biology in 1941, he brought with him not only the new research methods and techniques of the newly developing discipline of molecular biology, but also an electron microscope—the first one to be used in a dedicated center for academic research at any US institution. Come learn about the early history of electron microscopy at MIT and the electron microscope in the museum’s collection.

Free with museum admission, no preregistration required.
