Rental Rates and Guidelines

PLEASE NOTE: The Museum building remains closed.

Availability and Hours

Events at the MIT Museum can be scheduled seven days a week beginning at 6 p.m. or later. (A 7 p.m. start time is recommended to ensure the most seamless transition between public gallery hours and your event start.)

We regret that we do not have any spaces available for daytime events or meetings.


1st-floor Gallery (Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery)
Seated dinner for 100
Standing reception for 100

2nd-floor Galleries

Entire Museum
Standing reception for 400 using both floors


The museum is easily accessible via public transportation, and $5 validated parking is available at the nearby 55 Franklin Street Garage.


Hosts must select the caterer of their choice from our list of preferred caterers.

Rental fees

A 50 percent deposit is required 60 days prior to the event date to confirm the reservation.

1st-floor gallery: $2,750
2nd-floor galleries: $4,000
Entire museum: $6,000

Discounted pricing is available for MIT departments. Additional fees may apply for MIT Police details and a special liquor license for events with a cash bar. Ask the event rentals manager for more information.

Music is permitted in the museum’s galleries. However, we regret that dancing is not permitted anywhere in the museum.

Tours and talks

Though food and drink are only allowed in designated galleries, guests are encouraged to explore all of the exhibitions on view within the gallery spaces rented for the event. We regret that the museum is unable to offer guided tours or talks during evening events.
