Franklin Field Housing Redevelopment

Contact us about this architectural site

Description

"In a joint venture with Wallace, Floyd, Ellenzweig, and Moore, Carr, Lynch Associates worked with the Resident Association to plan the comprehensive redevelopment of this 504-unit public housing development and collaborated on the housing and community facilities redesign. CLA designed all site improvements, including courtyards, grass areas, and shared yards for each building, and individual yards for large, ground floor family units. The redevelopment was completed in 1986 at a cost of $25 million."

Play Environment: "Working with children and their mothers, Carr, Lynch Associates designed the grounds to accommodate the needs of large families, more than 500 children under the age of 13. The entire 12-acre site was considered as an environment for active use by children. Each of three courtyards was designed as a play circuit. They included spaces for very young children next to each building, paved areas for older children to run and engage in informal games, clusters of play equipment, and more formal spaces such as an amphitheater, spray pool, and courts for half-court basketball. These play spaces were set between private and shared yards and planting."
