"With many developments underway in and around downtown Providence, the City engaged Carr, Lynch Associates to advise on how the various developments could be integrated and to identify priorities for public participation. The result was a development strategy and plan, with special emphasis on stimulating housing and retail development, and on making a series of public space improvements. CLA recommended the creation of The Providence Company, a public/private entity, to coordinate downtown development efforts and take the lead in carrying out the plan. The Providence Company is now an established institution in the City and is engaged in implementing the goals."
