Description

Massachusetts City and Towns Common Program.

"Carr, Lynch Associates designed two new public plazas and a small park to create a community focal point and improve the entrance to Central Square at the site of a former gas station. Without disrupting key traffic flows, the new common provides a sense of place at the intersection of two major arterials that had been lost since Central Square's heyday at the turn of the century. It was among the first projects to be done under the Massachusetts City and Town Commons program and was selected for funding in a state-wide competition. It was completed in 1987 at a cost of $850,000."
