Perth City Foreshore Master Plan

Contact us about this architectural site

Description

“1991, Steve Carr and Jim Sandell collaborated on the winning design in an open international competition for the Perth, Australia waterfront. The design took inspiration from our successful work on the New Charles River Basin. It featured an inland waterway and a large island with a performance shell and Western Australian Gardens. It also provided for expansion of the downtown business district and for new docks and jetties. There was to be an environmental learning center along a grand crescent promenade at one end, and at the other end multiple playfields and a large island set aside as a nature preserve. The design created new opportunities for multiple constituencies: family recreation, children's learning, exercise for all ages, boating, nature preservation and economic development. Although CLHS joined with Perth engineering and public process sub-consultants in a team to implement our design, a newly elected government decided not to carry through on the project.”
