This plan began the revival of the waterfront and downtown Boston.

"Kevin Lynch and John Meyer were principal consultants for planning the renewal of the Boston central waterfront, with Steve Carr working as urban designer. Following the success of Government Center, the redevelopment of the adjacent area has reconnected Boston to its harbor. The basic concepts worked out by Lynch, Meyer and Carr have held together for well over sixty years of diverse development. The new Boston Waterfront opened the way for many other cities to redevelop their neglected waterfronts and is considered to be the most successful example of its type."
