Cambridge Community Center, Cambridge Model Cities

Contact us about this architectural site

Description

An example of effective participatory architecture.

"Steve Carr was the senior designer at Ashley/Meyer/Smith for this Model Cities Neighborhood facility, which included a teen center, Head Start Program, daycare center for sixty children, and community function spaces. The design was based on extensive user consultation with the nearby community and teachers. Constructed in 1974, the center served the community well. It functioned as an important meeting ground in the neighborhood and provided a center for community activities. Due to the demand for housing in Cambridge, the Center has been replaced by an affordable housing development."
