Master Plan: “Lookout Farm is one of America's oldest continuously operating farm. Les Marino purchased this 170-acre working farm in Natick in 1992 to create an organic fruit farm. Carr, Lynch and Sandell was engaged to design and site many improvements. In 1999 the town requested a Master Plan, which was prepared by CLS, to show land uses, road configurations and located specific elements. CLS provided a detailed design for the public entrance; as well as a design for a farm museum, a public display garden to show gardening ideas from different historic periods and, a children's garden as an educational tool for area schools, and a public attraction.”
Children’s Museum Garden: “Set within a working organic farm, the one-acre Children's Garden would be a unique center of learning and play for young and old. Surrounded by the bountiful harvests of Lookout Farm, the Garden was designed to be an educational experience and support the positive and healthy experiences families have picking and eating food together. The major themes of the Garden were the history of farming, the abundance and wonder of nature, the science and technology of farming, and the natural forces that shape the land. Visitors to the Garden would gain insight through play into the life of a child living on a farm during various periods in history by being able to see, touch, hear and smell the farm. Interactive experiences would reinforce visitors' understanding of the fundamental natural processes that form the land and illustrate technologies used to raise and harvest food. Another of the planned experiences was a maze. Peter Martin designed the Children’s Garden, drawing on his extensive exhibit design experience.”
