This cane was created as part of the MIT Cable Cane project. The project began as a Master's thesis project (Leonard Potash, 1961, Mech Eng Dept, supervised by Thomas B. Sheridan), then continued as an undergraduate project in 1962 as part of Dwight Baumann's 2.671 course. The project eventually resulted in the commercially produced Hycor Cable Cane.
