SIRU Redundant Instrument Package
Description
This instrument is the Redundant Instrument Package for the Strapdown Inertial Reference Unit (SIRU), an inertial navigation system developed by MIT’s Charles Stark Draper Laboratory for the NASA Johnson Space Center.
The Redundant Instrument Package consists of six single degree-of-freedom gyroscope modules and six linear accelerometer modules, and was designed with enough redundancies that the system could still function with three out of six modules failing for each instrument type. It was designed for navigational systems for post-Apollo spacecraft.
