Description

This bronze medal depicts the seal of the city of Philadelphia on the front, and has a dedication text on the reverse. The medal is housed in a black leather and purple velvet case.

The John Scott Medal is a yearly award presented by the Board of Directors of City Trusts of Philadelphia to people whose work benefits humanity in some way. Though the award criteria is broad, the medal is usually given for inventions in science, technology, or medicine. In 1943, MIT electrical engineering professor Samuel H. Caldwell received this award for his graduate work with Vannevar Bush to develop the differential analyzer.
