Description

Round medal with an image of a woman holding a torch and an American flag on the front. She is standing in front of clouds, and wearing a sash that reads “let there be light. Around this, there is the inscription National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Founded 1863. On the back, there is the inscription “National Academy of Sciences Centennial 1963.” The medal is in its original box, and has a sheet with more information.

These medals were presented to the members, foreign associates, and delegates of sister institutions who were at the celebration of the centennial. Salvador Luria, who was a member, received his medal then.
