Sniffer is a 2002 art piece by Mark Bain, an American artist living and working in Amsterdam, and a graduate of MIT's CAVS program. The Sniffer was featured in the exhibition "tele-journeys" at the MIT List Visual Arts Center, and in the expanded arts education display of the MIT Museum's Mind and Hand exhibition It explores the impact of electronic technology on modern life and the tensions between privacy and connectivity. The Sniffer sniffs out and "audifies" radio traffic coming from encoded data (not voice or music radio), making the normally inaudible background of data transmissions loud enough to hear.
