Description

Ink and airbrush on coated paper. The surface is textured by slice marks where the airbrush masking (friskit) was cut with a blade.

Although this project consists of the typical pairing of office and commercial space, it is unique and notable in its placement of these spaces around a gigantic atrium visible from the street. The arrangement of spaces and the use of glass foster an ethos of transparency, directness, and accountability—appropriate for a major government office building.

The State of Illinois Center was renamed the James R. Thompson Center in 1993. The building was purchased by Google in 2022.
