Rossi, Aldo
Maker
“Aldo Rossi said that a city was a ‘living collage.’ Similarly, this drawing was made in a sequence of stages. The vigorous scratching of ballpoint pen, the thick layers of pastel and crayon, and the coat of clear varnish result in an accumulation of distinct textures. The objects depicted in the drawing are also layered, with references to the existing city in the background, Rossi’s new Teatro del Mondo (Theater of the World) in the middle, and discarded containers for soda, cigarettes, and tea in the foreground.” –“Drawing After Modernism” exhibition text
