Universal lecture table galvanometer, model 93-130

Contact us about this object

Description

This demonstration galvanometer consists of an iron loop mounted on a wood base. A needle is attached to a metal coil, and that needle points to a scale marked from 5-0-5 on the top, and 25-0-25 on the bottom. The instrument is contained in a wood-framed glass case.

Galvanometers measure the strength of an electric current. When a current passes through the coil, it produces a magnetic field that is directly proportional to the current, and the current can be read from the scale. This particular model was designed to be used in lecture halls for physics pedagogy. Its oversized scale could be read from a distance, as well as from the back. This instrument was used in the Simmons University physics department.
