Description

This item is a monochrome celestial map showing both the component stars and figural representations of the constellations Piscis, Triangulum, Pegasus (in part), and Andromeda. It also shows (using a figure of a star with a tail attached to it) the progress of a comet through the area. There is a relative scale printed at the lower edge of the engraving.

This image depicts the passage of the Great Comet of 1664 as described by Abraham de Grau as he saw it in Friesland. The image comes from Stanislaus Lubienieck's Theatrum Cometicum, 1668.
