Description

This item is a monochrome celestial map showing both the component stars and figural representations of several constellations, including the tail of Cetus. It also shows (using a series of figures of a star with a tail attached to it) the progress of a comet through the area.

Text on the top of the image reads “Figura exhibiens Cometus no. XXIV ante Chr. natum, quorum quidem situs ex Autorum scriptis potuit haberi"; plate no. LX.

This image depicts the passage of the Great Comet of 1664. The page comes from Stanislaus Lubienieck's Theatrum Cometicum.
