Description

Uncolored engraving depicting the 1588 battle between the Spanish Armada, which was attempting to invade England, and the English forces under Admiral Lord Howard of Effingham (and vice-admiral Francis Drake). The coast of Kent and the coast of Picardy are drawn and labeled with place names and rivers. In the border are small portraits of the British captains, some of whose ships are listed. Clockwise, from top left, they are:
