Description

Uncolored engraving depicting Jonah being spat up by the whale. The whale, at left, resembles an immense fish; it is scaled and has teeth. A widening cylinder of water is depicted coming from its mouth, at the far end of which is Jonah, clad in drapery and clothes that are depicted as sticking tightly to his body, and with curly hair and beard. Above, a bearded figure appears from the clouds, representing God or an angel. Towards the left-hand side of the background is a coastal city under a mountain. Under the image is printed "/ IMMANIS

lONAM TRIDVANÜM HIC EVOMIT

ALVI E LATEBRIS PISTRIX,

POSTQVAM MANDATA RECOXIT."

and the artist name is given at bottom right within the image itself.
