Description

Several ships are depicted in the background. The genus Delphinorynchus was proposed by M. Blainville, although it is not used in modern taxonomy. The specimen here depicted was found at Brest and the drawing is based on observations made by Yan Breda, a professor of natural history at Gand. Breda observed the animal to be eight feet in length.
