Description

Page 682 (verso 681) from the book "De cetis" (Liber 1) by Ulyssis Aldrovandi, first edition (1613). Hand-colored. Depicts a large male whale, side view; title text indicates that such a whale was captured in the Scaldi (Scheldt) river. Verso, another side view of a whale, this one with lumps on its lower back; captioned "Balaena nostra altera, Buffalina vulgo." (Eng: Our other whale, the common Buffalina)
