Hand-colored advertisement for a life-preserving device for use on whaleboats. Entitled "A Projection of a Life Preserver. To avert an Evil that has existed for Centuries!" With a lithograph of a whale-tail text to an overturning whaleboat at sea, carefully hand-colored, at top. Below are smaller lithographic images, each with a figure number, showing the components of the device, which is a flat board on a rod, and how it mounts onto the whaleboat. Below is a description of each of the figures, under the heading, "Dedicated to His Royal Highness the Duke of Clarence Lord High Admiral by Lieut. C.H. Ackerley H.M.S. Ocean. as affording to Seamen and others an additional chance of prolonging their Lives, in the event of Boats upsetting tried by desire, and in the presence of his Royal Highness, on the 17th July 1827 at Plymouth."
