Description

A view of British whale hunting in Greenland. Two large British ships are visible with others in the background. Men harpoon and spear whales in small rowing boats. In the left foreground, men attack a bear and in the right foreground, men attack a walrus. This is plate 15 of a series titled, 'Twenty-two prints several of the capital ships of his Majesties Royal Navy with variety of other pieces.' The in-plate dedication is "To the Honble. Sr. John Eyles Barrt. Sub-Governour of the South Sea Company This Plate of the Whale or Greenland Fishery is most humbly Inscrib'd. boream sic jungimus austro."
