American Centerboard Sloop Shadow
Description
Print from unidentified magazine. Note on yacht Shadow from magazine pasted onto corner of mount.
"Probably the fastest boat of its time was the 'Shadow', a 35-foot sloop owned by Dr. Edward R. Sissen, one of New Bedford's most well known sportsmen. The boat was built by the famous firm of Herreshoff of Bristol, R. I., builders of the celebrated cup defenders.
The 'Shadow' proved to be so fast that when the sloop 'Madge' came to this country from Scotland challenging any other sloop in the world, the 'Shadow' was the only boat to beat her."
