Description

Uncolored ship portrait of the Royal George, a British ship of the line, stern view. She flies the British naval jack and her sails are furled. She appears to be moored, and has three tiers of guns. A small boat is in the water at left, and other ships are visible in the background along the horizon. Title is printed on a banner at top of image. In the lower margin is printed "Engrav'd for the General Magazine of Arts & Sciences for W. Owen at Temple Bar 1756."

The July 1756 issue of that magazine includes a list of the ships at that time in the Royal Navy, listing the Royal George as under the command of Capt. John Campbell, and with 850 men, 100 guns.
