Description

Uncolored etching depicting two British gunships (identified by Clark as frigates) sailing on choppy seas, with two more vessels on the horizon. Of the foreground vessels, the left-most is shown in three-quarters bow view as she pitches to the right, dangerously close to the bowsprit of the right-hand vessel, which is depicted in side view and flies a St. George's cross. Aboard each, figures are working the rigging. This print is cropped, but comparison with another copy reveals that the title, which is a quote from Virgil, and the artist attributions are printed in the bottom margin.
