Description

Engraving based on a Chappel painting of the action on 19 August 1812. The Constitution is visible in bow view at left, sails tattered and flag still flying. At right and behind, in side view, the Guerriere floats with all her masts broken and smoke rising up from her side. Another floating mast-piece appears in the right-hand foreground.
