A hand-colored lithograph print of the cutter yacht 'Julia' in profile during the race for the Royal Yacht Squadron Cup on 19 August 1853 in which the 'Julia' won. The race was open to yachts of all nations, and it offered an opportunity to the American sloop yacht 'Sylvie' to once again prove the superiority of the "American system" of yacht building after the schooner 'America.' Another notable foreign yacht that entered the cup was the schooner 'Aurora Borealis' from Sweden. They victory of 'Julia' reassured British yachtsman that the "enthusiasm for American models and methods was exaggerated."
