Description

A hand-colored lithograph depicting the 'British Queen' dramatically bracing the tumultuous waves in a storm. The light source pierces through the dark clouds and highlights the ship. The lines of her rigging flail in the wind and her sails are loose. The outline of masts of another vessel can be seen in the far distance on the left behind the wave. The steam-powered vessel was the largest passenger liner in the world from 1839-1840
