The First "City of Paris"
Description
A port-broadside view of the steamship 'City of Paris' off a coast. The ship was part of the largest passenger steam ship line to America, the Inman Line. Their screw-propelled ships were economical, but not especially fast. In competition with Cunard, Inman launched an express service with ships to rival the best of the Cunard Line; the 'City of Paris' was one of five liners built for that purpose. As soon as she was launched, the 'City of Paris' established herself as an equal of Cunard's first screw steamer, 'Scotia.'
