A seascape of an East Indiaman sailing towards the left from the Downs, an area in the southern North Sea near the English Channel off east Kent coast. She fires a cannon and flies a large British Ensign. Men and women in a small dinghy in the right foreground wave at the ship. Other ships populate the background. There is a remarque of a Neptune in the margin below the image.
