Description

Sea Bird, yawl, built 1901. Negative number 1831. Designed (with Charles Mower) and owned by Thomas Fleming Day, founder and longtime editor of The Rudder magazine. Day's written accounts of long-distance cruises in Sea Bird helped fuel enthusiasm amongst other would-be voyagers, and did much to help establish small-boat cruising as a legitimate aspect of the yachting scene. See Glass Plates and Wooden Boat by M. P. Murphy, 2006.
