Original Caption: "Dr. Karl T. Compton, President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a bronze plaque which was awarded to the Institute by the United States Navy "for effective operation in training personnel during World War II. The presentation was made by Captain L. G. McGlone, U.S.N., Director of Training for the First Naval District. The training units at the Institute during the war included the Navy V-12 unit and Naval Training Schools for Radar, Loran, Aerological Engineering, as well as special courses in aviation engines and naval architecture.
